How to Read Tire Sizes

January 28th, 2018 by

Tires have a lot of numbers and letters associated with them. Although you may know that your vehicle needs a specific size, you probably have no clue what those designations mean. Once you learn, however, it becomes easier to purchase the right tires for your vehicle.

The first letter, a P for passenger or LT for light truck indicates the tire’s usage class. Next is a number that measures the tire’s width from one sidewall to the other. The second number, or aspect ratio, refers to the height of the sidewall. Subsequent letters designate the tire’s speed rating and whether it has radial construction. The next number designates the wheel diameter in inches.

Additional letters and numbers are also located on your tires. To learn more about the, come to the Walser Automotive Group service center. Our staff will be happy to explain what every letter and number means.
