We got this! The past few months of the COVID-19 have felt like something akin to an emotional rollercoaster. The outbreak of the coronavirus and its tremendous impact was something we never anticipated. The danger of the virus and the implications of social distancing crushed (and is still deeply affecting) consumer spending. It forced many companies to right-size to meet customer demand and Walser was no exception. Yet, we are beginning to see the forest through the trees. There is nothing more important than the people of this business. Restoring our greatest asset, our employees, are the priority.

We are hiring back in many key roles:

• Detail Techs

As we actively rehire and recruit great new candidates during this unusual time, we continue to tell the story of what sets Walser apart. Our business philosophy. Our Core Values. Our culture. MN Stay Safe Order: What it Means for Walser

 

Last week, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz dialed back Minnesota’s stay at home order by allowing non-essential businesses and retailers to reopen with social distancing rules and letting gatherings of 10 or fewer people resume, effective May 18. While life is slowly beginning to resume in our new normal, Walser’s current operations will remain “as is.” Walser sales departments will continue to operate by appointment only and through the Walser To You program. Walser service departments may continue operating as usual by appointment or walk-in. Governor Walz’s updated Stay Safe order will likely extend through June 12. Kansas’ statewide stay at home order expired on May 1.

We will continue to operate with the highest levels of care and safety in mind as we move through this next phase of COVID-19. Now is not the time to relax our standards on social distancing, hand and respiratory hygiene, glove use, face coverings during customer interactions, and spot-cleaning practices. These protocols are more critical than ever as more people in our communities continue to slowly transition out of quarantine. Don’t stop now. Keep practicing these safety standards for the health of yourself, your colleagues, and our customers.

As a reminder, Walser’s corporate office will utilize a phased-approach to bring people back into the office over the summer. Under Gov. Walz’s order, our corporate office will strictly adhere to a preparedness plan to prevent the spread of the virus as employees return. This includes mandatory temperature checks for returning corporate employees, limited capacity conference rooms, plexiglass desk dividers, and a freeze on nonessential guests and vendors to the office. Corporate employees will remain working remotely until otherwise notified by their manager.

 


WATCH: Walser Featured in Modula Video Series

Walser is being featured in several new product videos by the company Modula. The company produces vertical warehouse storage systems that greatly increase productivity, accuracy in parts picking, and time-savings for our parts departments. As you might guess, it’s also a huge space saver. This video features Walser Subaru Parts Advisor Andrew Kaelberer and the new machine at that location. Next week, we’ll show you how Modula implemented an even bigger machine at the Walser Reconditioning Center, both taller and wider, and the specific technology added to increase parts selection even further.


Child Backup Care During COVID-19

 

Did you know all Walser employees have access to Care@Work benefits? This includes emergency in-home Backup Care for children by vetted and background-checked child care providers. Employees can learn more about this benefit and register with their six-digit employee ID at https://walser.care.com.

Backup Care Safety Practices


Care.com has put into place the following guidelines for in-home Backup Care to help protect you and your loved ones.

• If anyone in your household may have been exposed to COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms, Care.com requires a 14-day wait period since the last possible exposure before requesting Child or Adult Backup Care. When you request Backup Care, you will need to confirm that no member of your household has the virus or is within this precautionary wait period. Care.com will also need to be notified if there are any health changes in your household between the time you request care and the day the care is taking place.

• In the case of actual infection, per CDC guidelines, Care.com will require you to confirm that you have been both symptom-free for 7 days and fever-free (without any fever-reducing medications) for 3 days.

• To avoid the spread of contagious disease, Care.com cannot provide Backup Care to any person who has a fever above 100 degrees.

• As it relates to COVID-19, Care.com is requiring care providers to adhere to the CDC-recommended best practices including:

o Taking their temperature before any care provider leaves to go to any job to confirm they are fever-free (100 degrees or above) and letting Care.com know if they are not feeling well

o Using preventive hand and respiratory hygiene

o Wearing a face covering for the duration of a Backup Care job

o The caregiver will reach out to your family in advance of when the care takes place to let you know that they will be arriving wearing a face covering – and throughout the duration of care – and ensure that there has been no change in the household’s health status since they booked the care

o Care.com asks that families do their part in maintaining a safe environment by adhering to the 6-foot social distancing guidelines and wearing masks when possible

Saints Keep the Spirit Alive With ‘Nopening Day’

One of our favorite parts of summer? Hanging with the St. Paul Saints. Walser has been a longtime partner of the Saints. While their regular season has been pushed back to tentatively start in mid-July, they kept the spirit of a home opener alive last night with their 2020 Nopening Day (yeah, you read that right). The Saints rebroadcast their Opening Day game from 2015 and handed out limited-time Nopening Day T-shirts.

When the season does finally kick-off, you know we’ll be listening for those Walser Runs. Once again, the Walser Foundation is donating $500 to Fraser every time the Saints score five or more runs at home this season. Fraser is the state’s number one provider of autism and mental health services.

We’re looking forward to another great season in support of Fraser and fun!

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Nothing about high school and college graduations looks the same this year. That’s not stopping this customer, Sam, from the next step in his journey. Sam just completed his undergrad degree from the University of Oklahoma. Next stop? The University of Minnesota to work on his Ph.D. Mom and Dad were with him at Acura of Wichita to hand over the keys to his grad present – a new-to-him Honda CR-V. Acura of Wichita Customer Specialist Greg Jones helped make this deal possible.

Here’s to many roads ahead.


To The Graduating Class of 2020…

 


Speaking of graduation, we know the canceled ceremonies and change of plans has many grads feeling blue. It’s an event that’s meant to be celebrated in person with friends and family. To any Walser employees who are missing out on this rite of passage with their student, know that you’ve got one capable Gen Z’er on your hands. This generation will be an adaptive bunch, no doubt, and it’s taken creativity to make the most of this year’s unconventional turning of the tassel. Congratulations to all 2020 graduates.

• Rochester’s school district is planning drive-up graduation ceremonies for high school seniors.

• Minnesota’s WCCO is doing regular shout-outs to grads on air this week. Look, Mom! I’m famous!

• The class of 2020, whether in high school or college, has had a senior year like no other. So give them a fitting present.
