Employee Spotlight: Austin Vokoun

Video is a way of life at Walser today. Whether it’s sales or service, Walser customers are greeted with a video to start their digital shopping or servicing experience. But Walser St. Paul Subaru Customer Specialist Austin Vokoun is going the extra mile even after the visit is over.
Vokoun creates personalized videos showcasing a vehicle’s technology so customers can watch it whenever necessary. Whether that is pairing a Bluetooth device, installing garage openers, or adjusting mirrors, he goes over everything. The practice was inspired by a family member.
“When my grandpa was first in the Forester they got, he had difficulty remembering what all the buttons on his top trim were, so I made him a cheat sheet. I took a photo of the steering wheel and labeled it for him to review and study for when I got back home so he could ask me questions on the functions.” This sparked the idea to do the same for his customers.
Once COVID hit social distancing became the norm, Vokoun transitioned his practice to short videos.
“I thought it would be easier for people to be able to review [a video] repeatedly in the comfort of their home, he said”
That customer-centric approach was a draw for Vokoun, even as a customer himself. After a great experience while buying his Subaru Crosstrek, he returned again to purchase another vehicle and joked that perhaps he should work at Walser. He eventually took the leap into the automotive industry and joined the team shortly thereafter.
“I’m just genuinely happy to be a part of it,” he said.
Beyond Walser’s way of doing business, Vokoun said the people that make the work great.
“With the transition to digital buying, the ability to find the right vehicle is easy, so it’s the experience that matters most,” he said “I want to give others the same experience I had with Walser.”
