Movember Initiative Raises Nearly $10,000 for Men’s Mental Health

January 10th, 2025 by

Every November, people across the globe come together for Movember, a month dedicated to raising awareness for some of the most critical health issues affecting men today. From prostate and testicular cancer to mental health struggles and suicide prevention, Movember provides a platform to open conversations about topics often overlooked or under-discussed through the expression of mustache growing.

To make this year’s Movember event even more impactful, the Men as Allies subcommittee—part of the Women of Walser employee resource group—teamed up with our two Subaru locations to raise money for the Face It Foundation.

For every new vehicle purchased from Walser Subaru St. Paul or Walser Subaru Burnsville, the dealership donated $25 to the Face It Foundation. Plus, customers had the option to match the $25 donation, and the Walser Foundation pledged to match 50% of the Subaru donation total.

Bringing Out the Big Check

Thanks to the combined efforts of our Walser Subaru locations and the Walser Foundation, we raised a total of $9,075 for the Face It Foundation—making a direct impact in reducing male suicide rates and fostering a supportive community for men.

“What Women of Walser, Men as Allies, and Walser Automotive Group as a whole have done for Face It this past Movember is amazing,” said Mark Meier, Executive Director of the Face It Foundation. “The dollars raised allow us to continue offering free peer-led programs, such as our support groups, crisis intervention efforts, and programming at the Face It retreat center, Northwoods. I’m so deeply grateful for Walser’s commitment and support of our effort to help men and reduce the incidence of suicide.”

Face It Foundation: A Beacon of Hope for Men’s Mental Health

Founded with the mission of helping men understand and overcome depression, the Face It Foundation has long been a beacon of support for those struggling in silence. The nonprofit works tirelessly to reduce male suicide rates by providing free peer support services and creating a sense of community for men who might otherwise feel isolated. Their commitment to fostering friendships and offering guidance to those in need has proven to be lifesaving.

What made the Face It Foundation stand out was its ability to reach men where they were—offering support that felt both personal and accessible. The foundation understood that many men battled mental health issues without ever speaking a word about it. Through peer support, they helped break down the walls of stigma and made it easier for men to take the first steps toward getting help. With support from organizations like the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, the Face It Foundation’s work aligns with an integrated approach to health.

Movember Mustache Contest: A Fun Way to Raise Awareness

As part of the month-long Movember celebrations, Walser hosted a mustache contest, encouraging employees to grow facial hair and submit a photo of their progress at the end of the month. Prizes were awarded for most improved, most creative, best team photo, and best overall. It was a lighthearted way to draw attention to serious issues and bring people together in support of men’s health.

Thank you to all who participated, donated, and supported the cause.
