A Milestone in Workforce Development

The Walser Automotive Service Lab, part of WSU Tech’s $3 million renovation, is more than just a state-of-the-art training facility; it’s a symbol of Walser’s commitment to education and workforce development. The renovation expands WSU Tech’s capacity to train students in automotive programs, adding new resources like an alternative fuels lab, a heavy truck area and a 72-person lecture hall. With demand for skilled technicians continuing to outpace supply, this facility is a crucial step forward in meeting the needs of the automotive industry.

Addressing a National Challenge

According to a 2020 study by the TechForce Foundation, the U.S. faces a severe technician shortage, with demand outpacing supply by a ratio of 3 to 1. An estimated 642,000 auto, diesel, and collision technicians will be needed between 2020 and 2024. This partnership between Walser and WSU Tech is not just about building a state-of-the-art facility; it’s about building a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals to keep the industry moving forward.

Investing in the Future

The Walser Foundation’s mission is to invest in the communities where we live and work. Funding for the Walser Automotive Service Lab was made possible by a grant from the Walser Foundation, which designates 5% of all pre-tax earnings to support education and workforce development initiatives.

“Investing in the communities where we live and work is key to our mission,” said Nancy Warner, Director of the Walser Foundation. “This multi-year grant ensures that WSU Tech students have access to hands-on learning and career readiness.”

A Vision for Tomorrow

Students at the Walser Automotive Service Lab will gain experience with the latest technology in the field, from traditional automotive systems to cutting-edge electric and hybrid vehicles. The lab also hosts the center’s alternate fuel program, where students learn to work with the next generation of automotive technology. This hands-on experience is essential for preparing students to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry.

A Bright Future Ahead

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked more than just the opening of a new facility; it marked the beginning of a new chapter in Walser’s ongoing commitment to education and community development. The Walser Automotive Service Lab is poised to be a cornerstone in training the next generation of automotive professionals, ensuring that both Walser and WSU Tech remain leaders in workforce development.

As we look to the future, we are excited to see the impact of this partnership on the community, the industry, and the countless students who will gain the skills and opportunities they need to succeed.
