Tech Life
In early 2022, the focus of building a specific and competitive technician recruitment platform became evident. Especially one focused on growing our own technicians from young technician talent.
From there, Tech Life was born.

This program evolved with specific enhancements relating to tuition reimbursement, career pathing, paid training, investment in ongoing certified support, relocation assistance, performance-based recruiting, team structure in the store, strategic recruitment at tech schools across the country, and developing game-changing relationships with major technician institutions (i.e., UTI, WyoTech, Dunwoody, DCTC, to name a few…).
Because of the focused technician programmatic recruitment contributions towards the program and effective recruitment of technician graduates, Walser is now considered a Premier Employer of UTI (Universal Technical Institute). The Premier employer status has allowed Walser to be more present in the classrooms, increased visibility at career events, and improved relationships with the automotive/career service staff members. This status also allows us to have certain priorities when we are at the campus, such as the location of our booth for career events, etc.
We understand that whenever someone considers relocating, it is not easy. So, we put a strong emphasis on a relocation program to support the students in an easy and fully supported relocation process.
In 10 months, the Tech Life Program converted multiple hires, and many of those were from outside the state of MN that relocated. Coupled with partnering with WrenchWay who chose Walser as having multiple Top Shops for Technicians to work at and grow their careers. Promoting and improving technician careers in Automotive is a driving purpose of the Tech Life program for Walser that developed with key Walser leadership members.
Our brand reputation is growing across the country and in places where our dealerships do not have a physical presence. This is because of the relationships we have built with career services at multiple schools, but also because we truly support the growth and development of early technician talent. Our goal is to promote the industry in transportation and all the careers that can exist in this amazing field. Not only do we go to college campuses to speak or do career events, but we also have a big presence in local High Schools to speak to students about what the automotive industry is all about and how exciting the industry can be. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to SHOW UP!
We’re Invested in Our Technician’s Success
It’s no secret: We know technicians are the future for Walser Automotive Group. That’s why we actively invest in and build our technicians’ skill sets and capabilities. We know that developing knowledge and confidence is done most effectively through consistent training and close-knit teams, so each shop structure is founded on creating smaller technician teams with a strong team leader. Focusing on building teams creates an effective service experience for everyone, customers, and employees alike.

Tech Life: A Path to Leadership
The success of our technicians can mean many things, whether that’s advancing to the highest classification level, becoming a Shop Foreman, or ultimately leading a service department as the Service Manager or General Manager.
Along the way, you’ll be well supported with consistent mentorship and knowledge building. Our technician training plans help assess employee aptitude and strengths in order to provide growth within the technician role or the path to become a leader within the store or organization. Everyone has a well-established career path.
