2024 Walser NextGen Internship Program Celebration

September 26th, 2024 by

The future of internships at Walser is here, and it’s brighter than ever. In August, we celebrated the achievements of our 2024 Walser NextGen interns—an inspiring group of students who brought their passion, dedication, and fresh perspectives to various Walser departments, including Risk & Safety, Marketing, and the Business Development Center.

A Partnership for Success

The Walser NextGen Internship Program connects promising young adults to career opportunities at Walser through partnerships forged by Walser Foundation grants. These partnerships extend our mission to expand access to education and career training within the communities where we operate. Our interns joined us through collaborations with nonprofit organizations such as Urban League Twin Cities’ Black Gems program, Project Diva International, and Wallin Education Partners.

Building Career Readiness and Mentorship

Mentorship and career readiness are at the core of the NextGen Internship Program. Our interns don’t just gain work experience—they build meaningful relationships with their mentors, learning to navigate professional environments and take significant steps toward their future careers. From understanding the nuances of workplace culture to honing their professional skills, each intern’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship and supportive community.

Voices of Impact

During our celebration event, interns shared their experiences and reflections on their time at Walser. One intern said, “I see myself moving way further ahead in life, and it’s all because of this opportunity. The trust that each supervisor has in their employees is incredible. They genuinely want to see you improve.”

Another intern spoke about the importance of being heard and supported, stating, “When you meet the team here, you realize they just want to be heard. Understanding where employees are coming from is key, and that’s something Walser gets right.”

A Commitment to Community

The Walser Foundation’s commitment to education and career development is at the heart of the NextGen Internship Program. By dedicating 5% of pre-tax earnings to fund grants and sponsorships annually, we ensure that our investments in the future are meaningful and impactful. This program isn’t just about internships; it’s about creating pathways to success and building a community that uplifts and supports its future leaders.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate the success of our 2024 interns, we’re already looking forward to the next cohort of talented individuals who will join us. To the future interns: know that you have a voice, that you can ask questions, and that your potential is limitless. We’re excited to see what you’ll achieve and are committed to supporting you every step of the way.
